Elektromontage’s fitters build for the sea – and for the future

In a workshop in Söderköping, four fitters are assembling control cabinets for some of the world’s most demanding environments: naval vessels. Together, they embody creativity, strong teamwork and the problem-solving ability that has driven Elektromontage’s success.

To the uninitiated, a marine fitter’s day might seem straightforward: components are assembled according to drawings, job done. In reality, it’s an advanced craft where millimetres matter. The technology must withstand shock waves, vibrations, harsh climates and extreme space constraints, while still performing with absolute precision.

Every assignment requires adaptation to the customer’s needs, onboard spaces and technical specifications, placing demands on both designers and fitters. When theory meets reality, the ability to create tailored solutions is needed time and again.

It’s an environment where creativity and precision reinforce one another.

“Our fitters work in a technically advanced field where the smallest details make a huge difference. It takes a combination of finesse, responsibility and curiosity to succeed,” says Deputy CEO Lucas Karlsson.

Teamwork built on trust
Because the marine systems Elektromontage builds are rarely identical, the fitters’ work is crucial for function, safety and overall quality. And it’s something Elektromontage’s fitters have consistently delivered.

And while they work independently, their success rests on teamwork. The culture is characterised by accountability and a willingness to support each other across departments. Roles are clear, yet the distances between production, engineering and the office are short.

“We believe in freedom with responsibility. When people are trusted, both engagement and job satisfaction grow. It’s one of our greatest strengths,” says Lucas Karlsson.

A Gasell award thanks to the employees
Elektromontage has grown strongly in recent years and is now one of the recipients of Dagens Industri’s Gasell award, via its parent company Dockgärdet Holding. For Lucas Karlsson, the driving force behind that growth is obvious.

“This award belongs to the entire staff. Our growth comes from their perseverance, creativity and ability to solve problems together. We would never have reached this point without them,” says Lucas Karlsson.

As a global supplier within power generation and marine automation, Elektromontage continuously develops its ways of working. The company has invested in leadership, self-leadership and a strengthened HR function to create the right conditions for both individuals and the organisation.

For Lucas Karlsson, it’s important that everyone understands how their work contributes to the whole. Communication and involvement are central to everybody at Elektromontage.

Fitters are a vital part of the future
Growth is also driven by close collaboration with customers around the world. Elektromontage has expanded organically by taking responsibility for more product and business areas, while electrification, AI development and rising energy demands open new opportunities.

“We grow together with our customers. When they develop, we do too – and that constantly opens doors to new collaborations,” says Lucas Karlsson.

To continue growing, the company needs more people who want to help build the next generation of power and marine systems. Fitters are essential, just as project managers, designers and team leaders.

“We’re looking for more people who want to grow with us. For anyone with a technical interest, there are fantastic opportunities here in Söderköping,” says Lucas Karlsson.
